Since water plus iron always equals rust, there is no "cure" for rust. Scientists have only been able to find two ways to deal with the inevitability of rust. These are:
1- Coating the Surface. Paint or something similar is placed on the metal in order to prevent the metal from coming in contact with water. This works great up until the first scratch. Any exposure of the raw metal can cause the entire piece to rust - even going under where the paint is not scratched.
2- Sacrificial Protection. This is where one piece of metal gives up its life for another piece of metal. This is the technology used by the Navy on its metal ships that keeps them from rusting out.
Sacrificial Protection works because all metals have a different susceptibility to rust. Rust is "lazy" - it will go to the most susceptible metal first. The RustBustr is made out of one of the most susceptible metals known to man.
